Here is how to use Google disavow tool

Google disavow tool help you to keep your site safe and remove spam backlinks by using Google Search Console. But before actually getting into the process of disavowing backlinks by using Google Disavow tool, website owners should contact the website owners from where the backlinks are generated. Standard process is to connect with them and ask for removal. If it didn’t help or you didn’t get any positive response then you can proceed with this and use Search Console to get rid of those spam backlinks.

Steps to follow

This is a two-step process. First, you’ll need to download a list of links to your site. Next, you’ll create a file containing only the links you want to disavow, and upload this to Google.

Download links to your site

  1. On the Webmaster Tools home page, click the site you want.
  2. On the Dashboard, click Search Traffic, and then click Links to Your Site.
  3. Under Who links the most, click More.
  4. Click Download more sample links. If you click Download latest links, you’ll see dates as well.

While looking at the links to your site in Search Console, make sure to verify both the www and the non-www version of your domain in your Search Console account because too Google, these are entirely different sites.

Upload a list of links to disavow

  1. Go to the disavow links tool page.
  2. Select your website.
  3. Click Disavow links.
  4. Create a list of website which you wanted to remove in notepad and save the file in a text format (.txt). Given below would be the format of text file.Disavow file format

Now you are done with the process. Google will take some time to process the information so have some patience.

Avoid Short Cuts: When we are working on a project or doing SEO for our personal website/blog, the very first thing to do is Keep patience. SEO is not a magic wand which can give you results over night. It require good amount of time.

Focus on Quality: Always focus on quality instead of quantity. Never compromise your future with short term success.

Do your research: Always do deep researches before diving into any product and creating marketing strategy. You may require numbers to compare and decide what you want. Start from ground zero and take help of each and every report. Analyzing is the best way to drive better results.

Few technical suggestions

  1. Never miss out monitoring. Daily monitoring of analytics data. Especially source/medium and compare data with previous data.
  2. Do not let the data disappeared from webmaster. Download Backlinks data from webmaster under “Links to your Site” every week and keep an eye on performing keywords. Every week you would see new keywords which can help you in future website content.
  3. “NEVER COPY” any data from any source. Always rely on original content. Be it images or text you should never use copied content in your website.
  4. Do not built backlinks in bulk without checking spam score of the website. Always keep an eye on link back sites. Sometimes you would see URL’s in webmaster which you don’t remember. So check the spam score of website and if it doesn’t meet your standard then get rid of URL ASAP by using “remove URL” tool in search console.
  5. Follow the practice of 1 link from 100 URLs instead of 100 links from 1 URL while building backlinks. Using variety of anchor text would certainly give you good results.
  6. Don’t rely on paid tools. Technology is good but it is always good to learn each thing every day. Always ask yourself that why you need paid tools and what kind of problem they are going to solve.

Since I am using the free version of analytics, I am not getting the keywords but it is showing not provided and not set. But if you are using the premium version of Google analytics, you will get the complete list.

Google Ads: Create a campaign and choose the audience and define age of your expected customers. Run the campaign for a while and analyze the performance report. Under the keywords, you can go to search terms and see what people are actually searching for. This is one of the common practices by marketers to find out the age of website visitors. You can try it on your own and see the results.

Tip: It is always suggested to put 3 ads in one campaign. You can design your ads according to campaign and go live. Keeping limited keywords in campaign would help you to analyze keyword performance in a better way. Stuffing keyword in your campaign would cost you a lot so be careful while designing campaigns.
