(2) Algorithmic penalty.

(C) your site is not ranking for your brand name anymore

Manual Penalty: In order to check the manual google penalty, you can follow given below instructions
- Login to Webmaster (Search Console)
- Choose the property (Website)
- Go to Search Traffic from left hand side menu
- Choose "Manual Actions"

How to remove Google Penalty
If you got an Algorithmic penalty, then you would find a fix by google itself. You can see "How to fix" option provided by google within the penalty notification. You can follow the instructions/steps to get it removed.
However, if it is a manual penalty then the best thing to do is, track the spam links in webmaster and get rid of them ASAP.
