A Google penalty is the negative impact on a website’s search rankings based on updates to Google’s search algorithms or manual review. The penalty can be a by-product of an algorithm update or an intentional penalization for various black-hat SEO techniques. During the process of Digital Marketing for individual or corporate project, every digital marketer try to work smarty to avoid Google Penalty. Most of the time Digital Marketers are aware about the situations where Google can penalize the website. However, few people still apply the shortcuts to achieve ranks quickly. Search Engine Optimization is a skill based method and it require time to deliver result. But sometime due to lack of patience, we apply some shortcuts.

1. Unnatural backlinks to your website:

Any links intended to manipulate PageRank or a site’s ranking in Google search results may be considered part of a link scheme and a violation of Google’s Webmaster Guidelines.

2. UGC Spam

UGC (User Generate Content) are most commonly filtered by the webmasters but it’s internet & you can’t control everything. You can only control the UGC in your website/blog but it’s hard to control entire internet. People willingly or unwillingly share website links to portals/forums which are considered as spam by search engines.

3. Hidden text or keyword stuffing

Keyword stuffing is an outdated technique of getting ranks after the quality parameter update of google. But if you are still doing it then you might see a Google Penalty on your web. Instead of stuffing keywords, focus on quality. Always keep LSI Keywords method in your mind while generating content. It would help you to avoid spam.

Keyword stemming is also one of the best technique for using keywords wisely.

4. Cloaking or sneaky redirects

Cloaking is a search engine optimization (SEO) technique in which the content presented to the search engine spider is different from that presented to the user’s browser. This is done by delivering content based on the IP addresses or the User-Agent HTTP header of the user requesting the page.

How to check Google Penalty

There are two types of Google penalties:

(1) Manual penalty

(2) Algorithmic penalty.

Algorithmic penalty could be of given below reasons. You c

an be identified penalties when:

(A) A Number of pages have been De-indexed.
(B) Your page rank has been decreased
(C) your site is not ranking for your brand name anymore
(D) your site has been De-index from google.

Manual Penalty: In order to check the manual google penalty, you can follow given below instructions

  1. Login to Webmaster (Search Console)
  2. Choose the property (Website)
  3. Go to Search Traffic from left hand side menu
  4. Choose “Manual Actions”

Steps to remove from Google Penalty

If you got an Algorithmic penalty, then you would find a fix by google itself. You can see “How to fix” option provided by google within the penalty notification. You can follow the instructions/steps to get it removed.

However, if it is a manual penalty then the best thing to do is, track the spam links in webmaster and get rid of them ASAP.

After removing the links by using disavow tool, wait till you get the notification from google that links are removed. Once it is done, start doing “White Hat SEO” and request for re-indexing. Make sure that you generate quality content this time. Keep patience during the process.
